Landscaping has already begun on the Athletes’ Village site where a wetlands park is already underway. The Village proposes to accommodate the athletes and officials throughout the course of the games. Once the games are over the Village will then be used to provide homes for 2, 818 families.

A new proposal to create special ‘Games Lanes’ will be put in place to ensure that both athletes and officials involved in the games will be able to travel to and from the various venues with ease.
The lanes will be in areas through central London; Wembley Stadium; to Stratford  and to Grenwich. The Olympic Association is looking for 70,000 volunteers to support the Olympic and Paralympic starting in 2010.
Volunteers will be required to carry out a variety of roles whether they can offer specialist skills or simply a love and enthusiasm for sport. The volunteers will be gathered from a wide demographic, and a significant number of roles will be open to under 18s, ensuring that everyone has a chance to have a piece of the action.

Nearly two million tonnes of contaminated soil have been cleaned to be reused on the Olympic Park in the UK’s largest ever soil-washing operation.

Five soil-washing machines have cleaned most of the one million cubic metres of soil that was contaminated with oil, petrol, tar, cyanide, arsenic and lead. More than 80 per cent of this soil has been cleaned so it can be reused on the Olympic Park and 98 per cent of demolition materials on site has been recycled.

On May 12th it was announced that Eurostar had become a Tier Three sponsor of London 2012.

The Architecture Foundation has announced the launch of an open international competition to design a temporary landmark on the eastern edge of the City of London in Aldgate to stand for the duration of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The landmark will be sited on the location of the historic Ald-Gate, the landmark will be a signal that the City welcomes its neighbours rather than tries to keep them out. The competition is now open to entries from yesterday until 12noon on 28th May 2010.
